situated north of Beaune, this area is encircled by Beaune mountain in the south and Noël forest in the north. The vineyards are divided into two parts: one east of the village, the other further south. One of Savigny’s claims to fame is as the home of Dr Guyot who lent his name to a system of pruning. The first growths are planted on two different types of soil: the ones in the south occupy sandy, gravely soil whilst those in the north grow on richer soils formed of limestone and iron-rich clay. The two varietals used for the appellation are Chardonnay and Pinot noir.

with their brilliant colour, the reds are pleasant wines with low tannin content and acidity. They are supple, light and graceful. The first growths hailing from the south are light and soft and reward early drinking. Wines from the north are more robust and reward patience. Predominant aromas in the red wines are morello cherry, blackcurrant, strawberry and undergrowth. The whites are lively in the early years then mellow with age. They are harmonious, delicate and sturdy with fragrances of hawthorn, hazelnut, apple and occasionally exotic fruits. They pair with white meat, poultry, scallops, fish… Climate sites classed as first growths: Les Charnières, Les Talmettes, Les Vergelesses, Bataillière, Basses Vergelesses, Aux Fourneaux, Champ Chevrey, Les Lavières, Aux Gravains, Petits Godeaux, Aux Serpentières, Aux Clous, Aux Guettes, Les Rouvrettes, Les Narbantons, Les Peuillets, Les Marconnets, La Dominode, Les Jarrons, Les Hauts Jarrons, Redrescul, Les Hauts Marconnets.
