the village of Meursault is situated 8 km south-west of Beaune in Côte d’Or. The southern part of the village boasts the greatest concentration of first growths, which number 20 or so in total, including the flagship Les Perrières and Clos des Perrières. Of the appellation’s 437 ha expanse, 132 ha are classed as first growths. The soil is formed of white marl on a Jurassic limestone bedrock. The proportion of clay here is higher than in the other appellations. Climate sites classed as first growths: Les Cras, Les Caillerets, Les Santenots Blancs, Les Plures, Les Santenots du Milieu, Charmes, La Jeune-Lotte, La Pièce sous le Bois, Sous le Dos d’Ane, Sous Blagny, Perrières, Clos des Perrières, Genevrières, Le Porusot, Les Bouchères, Les Gouttes d’Or.
Grape varieties: Vins rouges : pinot noir. Vins blancs secs : Chardonnay

95% of the wines are white. They display a golden hue and develop aromas of russet apple, crusty bread, hazelnut, bitter or dried almonds, foliage. Rich in alcohol, they exhibit fat and opulence. Try with foie gras, fish in a sauce, fatted chicken in a cream sauce or shellfish. Very occasionally red wines are made. They boast aromas of raspberry and are delicate with good structure, requiring a few years’ ageing before they fully reveal their character.
