set midway between Rully and Givry, the boundaries of this appellation are etched by Mount Morin and the Orbiset river. With 847 ha under vine, including 142 classed as first growths, the Mercurey appellation produces almost as much wine as the other ACs in the Côte Chalonnaise (Givry, Rully, Montagny). The wines are grown in the village of Mercurey and in the immediate vicinity. the reds exhibit aromas of small red fruit (blackcurrant, raspberry, morello cherry, strawberry) with undertones of leather and undergrowth. They have body, are chewy, rich, robust and well-balanced. They pair nicely with pheasant and tenderloin steak with ceps. The whites, with their golden colour and aromas of cinnamon, exotic fruit, amber and walnut, are fat and elegant. They are the perfect partner for fish served with a sauce.
