this 180 ha appellation is divided between three villages located in the far southern tip of the Côte de Beaune in Saône-et-Loire : Dezize, Sampigny and Cheilly, each of which is entitled to add its name to that of the appellation. Six climate sites are classed as first growths within the appellation. Climate sites classed as first growths: in Cheilly-les-Maranges: Les clos Roussots, la Fussière, Clos de la Boutière. In Dezize : La Fussière, Clos de la Fussière, La Croix aux Moines. In Sampigny : Les Clos Roussots, Le Clos des Rois, Le Clos des Loyères.

Maranges wines have a deep colour and aromas of red fruit and undergrowth. When fully mature, they develop aromas of fur and game. They are solid, robust, rich, tannic, fleshy wines which are full and firm. Try with a leg of venison, ribsteak, rabbit with a mushroom sauce, jugged hare.
