this appellation sits west of Chalon-sur-Saône, and occupies a strip 6km long by 3km wide. Reputedly Henry IV’s favourite wines, they are grown in the village of Givry and the immediate vicinity, forming a barrier against urban sprawl. Climate sites classed as first growths: Clos du Cras Long, Clos des Vernoy, Les Grandes Vignes, Clos Marceaux, Les Garnds Prétans, Clos de la Barraude, Petit Marole, Celiiers aux Moines, Clos Charlé, Servoisine, Les Bois Chevaux, Clos Saint-Pierre, Clos Saint-Paul, Clos Salomon, Clos Marole.

Grape varieties: Vins rouges : pinot noir. Vins blancs secs : Chardonnay

The wines of this appellation

the reds display a deep ruby-red hue with aromas of wild fruit, redcurrant, a touch of spices and animal tones, liquorice, raspberry and undergrowth. They are round, warm, delicate, lively, moderately robust wines. Try with white meat in a sauce. The whites display a golden colour with floral aromas such as thyme, wild rose, mineral and citrus notes (lemon). Smooth on the palate, they are rich, subtle and delicate with good length and fresh flavours. Enjoy with fish or tarts.
