this small appellation area in Jura embraces the villages of l’Etoile, Plainoiseau, Quintigny and Saint-Didier where the soil is black or blue marl from the Lower Jurassic period. The climate is continental, with extremely cold winters and frequent autumn frosts. The white wines are blended from three permitted grape varieties (Chardonnay, Poulsard and Savagnin) and are frequently aged on the lees.

The wines of this appellation

the entire regional white range is made here, from white itself to ‘yellow’, sparkling and ‘vin de paille’. The white wines are lively and intense yet also fat and mellow. They pair well with fish and cooked shellfish. ‘Vins de paille’ are extremely concentrated and syrupy, exhibiting a beautiful amber hue and a rich, smooth taste. The extremely powerful ‘vins jaunes’ display a clean attack, fine structure and smooth, silky finish. They develop aromas of unripe walnut, fir tree honey and bitter almond.
