Vino de la Tierra
The Vino de la Tierra de Extremadura appellation covers every municipality of the provinces of Badajoz and Cáceres, which together make up the region of Extremadura in western Spain, bordering Portugal. It was recognized in 1999 by the Junta de Extremadura. The climate is Mediterranean, tempered by Atlantic air masses: sunshine exceeds 2,600 hours a year, among the highest levels in Spain, while rainfall stays low, particularly in central Badajoz province, where it drops below 400 millimetres a year. Summers are hot, with average temperatures above 25°C, and winters are mild thanks to the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The vineyards lie between 200 and 400 metres above sea level. A wide range of grape varieties is grown here, combining local varieties such as Cayetana Blanca, Pardina and Alarije with international varieties including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

Vino de la Tierra de Extremadura produces white, rosé and red wines, along with semi-sparkling wines and quality sparkling wines in white and rosé. The whites show a yellow colour, ranging from greenish to lightly amber tones, with forthright aromas that are fruity, floral or vegetal, and a fresh, balanced palate. The rosés, with hues running from violet to orange, offer fruity aromas with floral notes, always built on freshness. The reds, with a red colour showing violet tints, develop forthright fruity and floral aromas; those aged in oak take on tawny nuances and woody notes, with a balanced, lingering palate. The region's hot, dry climate encourages strong aromatic intensity and, in red grapes, good extraction of tannins and anthocyanins. Picked early, the whites and rosés are best enjoyed young with fish, seafood or salads; the more structured reds pair well with grilled red meat, while oak-aged bottlings suit game or matured cheeses.
