Denominazione di Origine Controllata
The Vigneti delle Dolomiti protected geographical indication (Weinberg Dolomiten in German) covers the entire administrative territories of the provinces of Trento and Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige, together with the province of Belluno, in Veneto. This wide interregional zone extends across the alpine and pre-alpine slopes of north-eastern Italy, a landscape shaped by the Dolomites. The climate is transitional between Mediterranean and alpine influences, with marked day-to-night temperature swings that favour the development of aromatic precursors in the grapes. More than sixty international and native grape varieties are authorised: among the whites are chardonnay, pinot grigio, riesling, sauvignon and müller-thurgau; among the reds, pinot nero, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, lagrein and teroldego. This variety of grapes and the interregional scope set Vigneti delle Dolomiti apart from the more limited appellations of the same alpine area.

Vigneti delle Dolomiti produces white, rosé and red wines, also made in sparkling versions; reds are additionally released as novello, and wines in all three colours can be made as passito from dried grapes. The whites show straw-yellow to golden colour with fine, fruity and floral aromas, carried by a freshness that balances the alcohol. The reds, ruby in colour, offer a vinous profile with soft tannins and are suited to drinking young, while the more structured cuvées gain complexity with a few years of ageing. The whites pair readily with lake or river fish, light starters and fresh mountain cheeses. The reds go well with white meats, cured meats and dishes typical of the alpine valleys, while passito versions suit desserts and matured cheeses.
