AOC Valençay wines awarded at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge

this appellation, which was promoted to AC status in 2003, is located on the banks of the Cher and its tributaries (the Fouzon and the Mondon), on the border of Touraine, Sologne and Berry. Red varietals account for 85% of the range and focus primarily on Cabernets, Gamay, Grolleau and Pinot noir. The vines occupy clay silica hillside sites and plateaux with a subsoil dating back to the Senonian and Eocene epochs. Gunflint is one of the soil’s most essential components.

The wines of this appellation

the reds are only lightly-coloured and display fragrances of cherry and blackberry. They are light, pleasant wines suitable for early drinking. They pair well with veal stew, veal breasts and rabbit with onions. The whites are vigorous, sharp and harmonious wines with character. They display a pale yellow hue and boast characteristic notes of gunflint and floral aromas. Perfect with goats cheeses.
