The Greco di Tufo D.O.C.G. appellation lies in the Irpinia area, in the province of Avellino, Campania. It covers eight communes: Tufo, which gives the wine its name, along with Altavilla Irpina, Chianche, Montefusco, Prata di Principato Ultra, Petruro Irpino, Santa Paolina and Torrioni. Vineyards are planted on hillsides at varying altitudes, on clay-limestone soils enriched with volcanic elements and old sulphur deposits linked to the area's volcanic history. The climate is Mediterranean, tempered by the surrounding hills and forests, with cold winters and dry summers marked by wide day-night temperature swings that favour slow grape ripening. Greco is the dominant grape variety, complemented by coda di volpe bianca. This combination of volcanic-calcareous soils and a contrasted climate sets Greco di Tufo apart from neighbouring Irpinia white appellations such as Fiano di Avellino.

Greco di Tufo D.O.C.G. produces white wines, still or sparkling made by the traditional method. The still wine shows a straw-yellow colour, sometimes with golden reflections. The nose reveals aromas of yellow fruit and citrus, joined by notes of almond and a pronounced, occasionally sulphurous minerality drawn from the volcanic subsoil. On the palate it is fresh, dry and well balanced, carried by lively acidity and good structure. It can age for several years, with the finest examples gaining complexity over time. The sparkling version, made through a second fermentation in bottle, displays greenish or golden reflections and a light yeasty note. These wines pair well with seafood, fish, shellfish risottos, fresh cheeses and traditional Irpinia dishes.
