The Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi D.O.C. Classico Superiore appellation lies in the Marche region of Italy, within the valley of the Esino river. Its production zone covers twenty-four municipalities, twenty-two in the province of Ancona and two in the province of Macerata. The term "Classico" reserves the appellation for the oldest original area of the vineyard, which excludes the left bank of the Misa river as well as the municipalities of Ostra and Senigallia. The vines grow on hillsides with calcareous clay soils, under a climate tempered by the proximity of the Adriatic Sea. This maritime influence sets the Castelli di Jesi terroir apart from that of Verdicchio di Matelica, the other Marche appellation built on the same grape, which lies further inland, separated by the San Vicino massif and subject to a more pronounced continental climate. The verdicchio grape accounts for at least 85 percent of the blend, with the remaining 15 percent made up of other white varieties authorized in the Marche.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore is a dry white wine with a golden straw-yellow color and greenish highlights. The nose is intense, marked by notes of apple, peach and pineapple. On the palate it is harmonious and fruity, carried by bright acidity and a characteristic salinity, often finishing with a note reminiscent of almond. Its minimum alcohol content is set at 12% vol. The Superiore designation does not require mandatory aging before release, and these wines are most often enjoyed in their early years; the more structured cuvées, from the best sites, can nonetheless evolve favorably in the cellar. At the table, they pair naturally with fish starters, fish soups and baked or grilled fish, and more broadly with seafood-based dishes.
