The Valul lui Traian appellation lies in the south of the Republic of Moldova, covering around 43,200 hectares of vineyards across seven districts: Leova, Cantemir, Cahul, Comrat, Ceadâr-Lunga, Taraclia and Vulcănești. It comprises three distinct sub-regions: the Bugeac Plain, the Tigheci Forests and the Prut River Terraces. The climate is temperate-continental, tempered by the influence of the Black Sea, with 310 to 320 days of sunshine and 450 to 550 mm of rainfall per year. Chernozem soils dominate, complemented by loamy-clay ground. Plantings lean towards red varieties, combining Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Saperavi and Fetească Neagră with the white varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Muscat Ottonel. The Tigheci Forests sub-region is considered the most favourable area for sparkling wine production.

Valul lui Traian produces dry white, rosé, red, sparkling and sweet wines. The whites, made from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Muscat Ottonel, are fine and lively, with a complex, elegant bouquet showing fresh fruit nuances. The rosés show a pale pink colour with raspberry and poppy-petal reflections, offering a soft, fruity and fresh profile. The reds, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Saperavi and Fetească Neagră, display a deep colour ranging from pomegranate red to cherry red, with fruity aromas and a structured, round, velvety palate. The sparkling wines, ranging from pale green to straw, pale pink or ruby, show a fruity and floral bouquet. The sweet wines, with a rich bouquet, reveal notes of nutmeg, dried fruit and honey in the whites, and plum and chocolate in the reds. Whites and rosés pair with fish and light dishes, structured reds with red meats and mature cheeses, and the sweet wines with desserts.
