D.O.C.G.

Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze D.O.C.G. is a hillside vineyard located entirely within the municipality of Valdobbiadene, in the Veneto region, across the hamlets of San Pietro di Barbozza, Santo Stefano and Saccol. It covers a small area of just over 100 hectares, shaped like a natural amphitheater with full southern exposure, set within the wider Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore vineyard area. The soils originate from the uplift of ancient seabeds and combine sandstone and marl with morainic and alluvial deposits, providing good drainage while retaining a steady water reserve. Glera accounts for at least 85% of plantings, complemented by native varieties such as Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera and Glera Lunga. Through the steep slope of its parcels, its exposure and the narrowness of its territory, Cartizze stands out as the most qualitative point within the whole of Conegliano Valdobbiadene.

The wines of this appellation

Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze produces sparkling wines exclusively, made using the Martinotti-Charmat method, with a second fermentation in pressurised tanks. Three styles are produced according to their sugar content: Brut, Extra Dry and Dry, the latter being, counterintuitively, the sweetest of the three. Their colour is pale straw yellow, animated by a fine and persistent perlage. The nose reveals floral notes of acacia and wisteria alongside aromas of apple, pear and white peach, sometimes lifted by hints of citrus or fresh almond. On the palate, they show a balance between lively acidity and measured sweetness, with a long, aromatic finish. These are wines to enjoy young, to make the most of their freshness. They pair well with aperitifs, pastries and fruit-based desserts, particularly in their Dry style, while the Brut and Extra Dry versions suit delicate dishes such as fresh cheeses or light starters.
