AOC Vacqueyras wines awarded at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge

A.O.C./A.O.P.

Vacqueyras covers two villages in Vaucluse, at the foot of the famous Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. The soil make-up is reasonably varied, ranging from stony terraces, to sandy soils on the hillside sites, sandstone, limestone and sandy marl. The climate here is Mediterranean, dry, hot and windy with long sunshine hours. The varietal range is extremely broad-ranging: Grenache noir, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Carignan, Terret noir, Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarese, Camarese, Calitor and Picpoul noir for the reds. Grenache blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier for the whites.

Grape varieties: Vins rouges : syrah . Vins blancs secs : marsanne, roussanne

The wines of this appellation

the appellation produces red, rosé and white wines. The red wines, with their deep tint, are robust and full, well-balanced and long. They exhibit aromas of fig, ripe stone fruit and black cherry with liquorice notes. As powerful wines, they pair well with game and meats served in a sauce. The full, generous rosés pair with barbecues and aioli. The whites are delicate and floral with their fragrances of honey, dried and acidulous fruit, flowers… Try with fish or shellfish.
