The Moscato d'Asti D.O.C.G. appellation covers 52 communes spread across the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy. The vines are planted on well-exposed hillsides; valley floors and flat land are excluded. Soils are predominantly calcareous or clay-limestone, with the whitish marls typical of the Belbo valley, on the border between the Langhe and Monferrato hills. The moscato bianco grape, or white muscat, is grown here exclusively. This same production area and the same grape variety also give rise to the Asti D.O.C.G. appellation: Moscato d'Asti is distinguished by an earlier arrest of fermentation, which retains part of the grape's natural sugar and leaves the wine gently sparkling rather than fully sparkling.

Moscato d'Asti D.O.C.G. produces a sweet white wine with a straw-yellow colour of varying intensity. Its aromatic profile, marked by the musky character of the grape, brings out wisteria and lime blossom, orange blossom, peach and apricot, with notes of sage and citrus. On the palate it is sweet, aromatic, and keeps a light natural sparkle; its alcohol level remains moderate. It is a wine to drink young, within a year or two of harvest, to preserve the freshness of its aromas. It traditionally accompanies the end of a meal: dry pastries, fruit tarts, panettone or colomba, cream-based desserts. It also pairs with fresh cheeses and can be served as an aperitif or with fresh fruit.
