The Corton great growth occupies the southern slopes of the Corton hillside overlooking the village of Aloxe-Corton. The only red great growth in the Côte de Beaune, it extends over 160 ha, with a hundred or so of those on-stream. Voltaire used to say that he would rather drink this wine in private than serve it to his guests. White wines are also grown on 2 hectares. Corton wines display a deep-coloured hue and fragrances of red fruit (blackcurrant, cherry), truffle, leather, a touch of humus and spices. They are powerful wines, blessed with good acidity. Laying-down wines, they can be slightly firm over the first few years. Try with small or large game. Some climate site names can be added to that of the appellation: in Aloxe-Corton: Les Pougets, Les Languettes, Le Corton, Les Renardes, Les Grèves, Le Clos du Roi, Les Chaumes, Les Perrières, Les Bressandes, Les Paulands, Les Maréchaudes, Les Fiètres, Le Meix Lallemand, Clos des Meix, Les Combes, La Vigne au Saint. In Ladoix-Serrigny : Le Rognet et Corton, Clos des Cortons, Les Moutottes, Les Carrières, Basses Mourottes, Hautes Mourottes, Les Vergennes, Les Grandes Lolières, La Toppe au vert.
Grape varieties: Vins rouges : Pinot noir
