AOC Muscat de Saint-Jean-du-Minervois wines awarded at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge

A.O.C./A.O.P.

located in the heart of the Minervois wine region, forty or so kilometres north-west of Béziers in Hérault, this appellation area has the highest elevation of all of the Languedoc Muscats, reaching 300 metres in places. The vines grow on the limestone plateaux of the upper Minervois region, overlooking the river Cesse. The stony nature of the soil imparts the wines their hallmark characteristics. The wines are made from small-berry Muscat by adding spirit to the fermenting must, a technique known as ‘mutage’.

Grape varieties: VDN : muscat à petits grains

The wines of this appellation

Saint-Jean Muscats have a tell-tale touch of acidity which makes them different from the other Muscats. They are vigorous, generous, delicate wines with fragrances of flowers, honey, apricot, lemon and other citrus fruits. They can be enjoyed as appetisers or with a dessert (fruit-based gateaux, peach salad…).
