Montagne-Saint-Emilion wines awarded at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge

A.O.C./A.O.P.

Of the four Saint-Emilion satellite appellations, this AC has the greatest acreage. Its soil type is quite similar to that of nearby Saint-Emilion: calcareous clay hillside sites on a subsoil of limestone, clay-silica or loam. The wines are blended from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Malbec and Carmenere.

With a hue of varying intensity, these wines are fresh, powerful, rich and mild. Tannins are quite present but the wines remain supple and display extremely pleasant characteristic floral, fruity notes. They partner with game and poultry served in a sauce.
