Wines of Portugal: When Authenticity Meets the Global Stage

Wine Paris: A Prime Showcase for a Rising Wine Nation

Portugal has never been more visible on the international wine scene. Supported by the richness of its terroirs, the diversity of its indigenous grape varieties and a distinctive identity balancing tradition and modernity, Wines of Portugal now stands as one of the most dynamic players on the global market.

And what better stage to highlight this momentum than Wine Paris, the first major international wine event of the year?

In 2026, Portugal will significantly strengthen its presence at the fair, with unprecedented growth. The exhibition area dedicated to Portuguese wines is increasing by 36% compared to 2025, confirming the rising interest of international markets.

Portugal Becomes the 3rd Largest Exhibiting Country

Thanks to this remarkable momentum, Portugal is now among the most represented foreign countries at Wine Paris, alongside Italy and Spain.
This performance illustrates the growing attractiveness and global recognition that Portuguese wines enjoy today.

An Increasingly Influential Player on the World Stage

Portugal is asserting itself as a key player in the global wine landscape:

  • 9th largest wine exporter by value (7th by volume)
  • 10th largest wine producer, accounting for 3.1% of global production
  • 2.7% share of the global wine trade

These figures show that, despite its modest size, Portugal holds a strategic position in international markets. Its mosaic of regions, heritage of native varieties and strong export dynamics make it an innovative, competitive and increasingly essential player.

A Vital Wine Economy

The wine sector remains a major pillar of the Portuguese economy.
In 2024, the country produced 6.9 million hectolitres, confirming the strength and resilience of its vineyards.

Nearly 47% of this production is exported, representing €966 million, equivalent to 1.22% of national exports and up to 8.4% of agri-food exports.
