Roussette is the name of a grape variety, also called Altesse. It is usually blended with a small proportion of Chardonnay. Situated in the south-eastern tip of Ain, near the border between Savoie and Haute-Savoie, this area stretches from Bourg-en-Bresse to Belley. The limestone soil marks a boundary between the southern part of Revermont in Jura and the foothills of the Alps.

The wines of this appellation

these are distinctive, robust, aromatic white wines, which are delicate, elegant and occasionally soft. Bugey’s best Roussette wines hail from six growths: Lagnieu, Montagnieu, Virieu-le-Grand, Arbignieu, Anglefort and Chanay. Suitable for laying down. They display fragrances of peach and apricot, evolving over time into honey and beeswax scents. They can pair with quenelles, grilled freshwater fish or fish in a sauce, fondues, raclette and soft cheeses.
