Château Vieux Robin

Château Vieux Robin is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the Médoc appellation. It lies in the commune of Bégadan, in the north of the appellation, close to the sea and to the Gironde estuary. The château has soils of gravel and sand over a limestone base, and the vineyard extends over eighteen hectares. The plantings are classic: Cabernet Sauvignon (sixty per cent), Merlot (thirty-five per cent), with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the remainder. At Vieux Robin, Maryse and Didier Roba farm with respect for the environment, so as to draw out the full potential of this terroir and of vines now more than thirty-five years old. Five generations have followed one another on the estate, each adding its own stone to the edifice, but Maryse and her husband Didier have put all their passion into preserving the heritage of Vieux Robin. Through diligence and constancy the château now achieves remarkable consistency, and ranks among the safe bets of the Médoc. This renewal owes much to Maryse, who has brought a feminine touch to the wines, and no less to Didier. Their son Olivier now works alongside them, and the result speaks for itself: handsome, typically Médoc wines whose richness and aromatic elegance are carried on a thoroughbred structure.
